Tinderbox Theatre Company, supported by The Arts Council NI, is proud to be bringing its adaptation of Frederico Garcia Lorca’s timeless tragedy to the Belfast Lyric’s Naughton Studio this October and November. Part of the Belfast International Arts Festival, this adaptation is staged in a contemporary setting on the Irish border.

This brand new adaptation by award-winning writer/director Patrick J O’Reilly brings a sharp comedic edge to this 90-years-old play. Drawing on the dysfunctional of a typical Irish family, the audience is invited inside a family party which is full of humour, tension and chaos. – with laughter often masking deeper struggles, creating a rich blend of light and dark.

Creative director of Tinderbox Theatre Group, Patrick J O’Reilly said: “We are so excited to bring Lorca’s Yerma to the Lyric as part of the Belfast International Arts Festival. Our credible cast has been working tirelessly to bring this timeless tragedy to life. Despite being nearly a century old, Yerma remains relevant today, as it explores themes of marriage, motherhood and societal expectations. This production challenges typical Irish values and confronts the pressures put on women.”

O’Reilly describes this adaptation as a “feverish mix of passion and desire” adding that “Yerma is more than just a play – it’s an emotionally charged experience blending the drama of Emmerdale with the intensity of Midsommar.”

This production boasts a talented cast, including stars from hit Northern Irish TV shows such as Derry Girls and Blue Lights, with theatre veteran Caoimhe Farren in the title role.

Ticket prices range from £15 50 £20 and are available from http://www.lyrictheatre.co.uk or you can simply phone the box office on 02890 301081.

Yerma runs at the Lyric’s Naughton Theatre from October 10th to November 3rd. To avoid disappointment I’d get booking now.
