Theatre Review: Agatha Christie’s The Hollow, Grand Opera House, Tuesday, October 3rd, 2016

I’ve read one Agatha Christie book in my life. I’ve never saw a single episode of the much adored Poirot, which according to fans is beautifully portrayed by David Suchet, and I’m not a big fan of who-dunnits. Now I’ve absolved myself from expectations, I can now ignorantly start this review with my readers having no expectations, and I can write with absolute freedom.

The GOH crowd is exactly what I expected: polite society who run from the Opera Company’s website at the mere mention of a West End musical. In my opinion, the GOH’s calendar offers a few too many musicals, but I understand they have to sell what the masses want. Every now and again a more pedestrian, low key and intellectually challenging show makes an appearance. And The Hollow is one such show.

The setting, to nobody’s surprise, is a country house in the home counties.
