Grand Opera House, autumn, winter program, 2019 – 2020
By Conor O’Neill
The middle of January in the year of 2020 sees the Grand Opera House close for an estimated 10 months of renovation. Before closure, the theatre is hosting a ton of events showing there’s plenty of life in the Old Girl yet.
Lovers of theatre, music, chat, straight-play, musical, edgy-new-stuff and high energy panto, keep reading.
Every need catered for: from low-key-one-night events to the extroversion of big musicals and hard-nosed plays featuring an eve-of-execution love story to humour of a couple eejits robbing a foodbank, and the touchingly instinctiveness of Dublin’s songsmith Glen Hansard to name a few. A rumour started by somebody I don’t know says, ‘May McFettridge only gets in through the stage-door by using a servants’ key-fob’. Pass it on. She’ll star in her 31st consecutive panto Beauty and the Beast. Hate to think the elderly having to work at their age.
Want dates? Well, chuff me, I got them. Pen and paper at the ready? No need for that. GOH has happily put together a flip-book and a link to all their upcoming shows
Don’t be forgetting the Lady’s bold little sister, The Baby Grand where you’ll get to see Dundonald activist Stephen G Large’s A Dog DLA Afternoon. An interview with the man to follow shortly.
